AFL Tasmania general
manager Scott Wade said
yesterday he was disappointed
by reports this week
that State League clubs
have lost confidence in his
administration.
Wade’s comments come as
club presidents prepare to
meet at Ross tonight to
discuss State League matters
of concern.
No AFL Tasmania representatives
have been invited
to the meeting.
The newspaper report in
The Advocate suggested a
no-confidence motion in
Wade could be on the
agenda.
‘‘Administrators being on
the back page of a newspaper
is always disappointing
for football because
what we should be promoting
is the players and the
clubs,’’ Wade said.
‘‘For me personally, I report
to the board of management
and I will continue to
do my job under the leadership
and guidance of the
board.
‘‘We had a great year last
year in the State League
and we are very much focused
on and looking forward
to having another
positive year this year.’’
Wade said he was not
concerned by the clubs holding
a meeting independent
of AFL Tasmania.
‘‘I’m not aware of the
agenda items of the meeting
because we’re not required
to be there,’’ he said.
TSL clubs continue to be
at loggerheads with AFL
Tasmania over its plans to
pursue a two-tier competition
only from 2011.
Unrest has been brewing
in State League ranks since
Burnie’s decision not to field
a reserves team this season.
The future of a statewide
reserves competition is expected
to be high on the
agenda of tonight’s presidents’
meeting.
