Clarence, Launceston and Devonport flex their muscles

31 May, 2010 09:12 AM
THE State League's leading sides all recorded solid wins in round 9 games at the weekend.

Launceston posted a thumping 82-point win against Burnie, at Windsor Park, Clarence thumped North Hobart by 79 points and Devonport reigned over Glenorchy by 50 points in Devonport.

Lauderdale recorded its second win for the season while North Launceston was able to get away from South Launceston in the last quarter of play in Friday night's clash at Aurora Stadium.

Even though Launceston was able to control its game against Burnie from the outset, coach Anthony Taylor said it would be challenged against a confident Lauderdale side at Aurora Stadium this weekend.

The Blues suffered a defeat last time they faced up against the Southerners and Taylor expected another hard challenge.

He hoped the Blues would continue with the good ball handling they had exhibited at Windsor Park on Saturday, and was looking to the less experienced players to step up against Lauderdale as they had against Burnie.

South Launceston takes on the strong Devonport side who has now won six straight.

South coach Dale Chugg said it wasn't too far from a win against rival North Launceston on Friday.

"We got within 10 points at three-quarter time and they should have been up by 50 or 60 at half-time if they had kicked straight," he said.

North Launceston hopes to continue its winning form and knock the undefeated Clarence off its pedestal this weekend to maintain third place on the ladder.
