THE success of next month's Hobart Cup carnival is assured, according to Racing Minister Bryan Green.
Mr Green has met with Tasracing following the debacle at Elwick earlier this week when a race meeting on the course's inside track was called off because of safety concerns and then attempts to race on the course proper had to be abandoned.
He has rejected any suggestions that the Tasmanian summer racing carnival meetings planned for Elwick in the next few weeks were under threat because of the condition of the track.
``The course proper is being prepared and will be ready for Sunday's Hobart Guineas meeting and the Hobart Cup,'' he said.
``I have been assured there is sufficient time for track workers to prepare the surface for this weekend.
``The month-long carnival will showcase our industry to local and national audiences and everyone is working to ensure the track is in top condition.''
Mr Green said the safety of jockeys and horses was paramount.
A rabbit burrow was explained as the problem which caused last Sunday's meeting to be abandoned after just two races.
Tasracing has since announced ``it will implement an animal control plan this week subject to contractor availability.''
The abandoned race meeting will now be run next Tuesday on the course proper.
The meeting will receive national coverage on Sky Channel 1 with eight races programmed.
The running rail will be out six metres from the 300m to the crossing and then four metres for the remainder of the track.
Although the meeting will have races similar to the program from January 15 trainers have been asked to re-nominate as fresh entries have been called.
Racing is due to go ahead at Elwick this Sunday with the $90,000 Hobart Guineas the feature race on a mammoth 10-race program.
Barrier trials set down for next Tuesday will not go ahead but grass gallops will be available after the last race.
