LAUNCESTON archer Clint Freeman will represent Australia at an upcoming world cup event in Croatia next week.
The 36-year-old TIS scholarship holder and former dual compound bow world champion will leave tomorrow for his first taste of international competition in nearly two years.
Freeman has been back in training following a two-year break from top level archery as he chases an Australian Commonwealth Games berth.
"It was a bit of a shock because the team was already pre-selected but one of the guys pulled out and they offered me the spot," he said.
Freeman said his form had been good in pre-Games trials and he believed the world cup spot would boost his chances of selection for the Games later in the year.
"I've been shooting pretty well and at the last trials we had 19 matches and I won 17 and tied two," he said.
"Based on that they've given me the call-up and it's good because I was pretty annoyed I was left out in the first place."
Freeman will compete in the individual and teams events in Croatia.
"My current form is good but the international level has really lifted in the past two or three years," he said.
"It will be good to get back into that environment and if I can win a couple of matches and prepare for the Games that will be great."
