FROM the immaculate playing surface at Aurora Stadium to the support given by Tasmanian soccer fans, Launceston City Council general manager Robert Dobrzynski believes Launceston has left a good impression on Melbourne Victory.
Wednesday night's A-League roster match between the Victory and Gold Coast United attracted a crowd of 5268 to Aurora Stadium.
It was Launceston's first official A-League match after six years of preseason friendlies.
Mr Dobrzynski said he hoped the match would be the start of a prosperous relationship with the Melbourne club.
``I think we certainly showed them what we can offer in terms of a destination and facilities,'' Mr Dobrzynski said.
``The players and the officials thought all aspects of the visit were fantastic.
``And they are looking forward to coming back
``We hope to have a long future with the Melbourne Victory Football Club.''
Mr Dobrzynski said the council was happy with crowd numbers, especially with the game being on a Wednesday night.
He also commended the condition of the Aurora Stadium surface.
``It looked like a billiards table,'' he said.
``And the location of the pitch really brought the crowd into the match.''
Mr Dobrzynski said future A-League matches could be marketed through Launceston tourism packages involving match-day tickets and accommodation.
