Hawks head to Tassie for preseason community camp

01 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
HAWTHORN'S playing list will converge on Tasmania next week for the club's 10th community camp in the state.

The Hawks' list will split into five groups, participating in activities in Launceston, Hobart and Burnie from Tuesday, February 7, until Thursday, February 9.

The club's 2012 preparations go up another gear with an intraclub match on the Friday at Launceston's Aurora Stadium.

In Launceston, the players will visit Sandhill aged care facility at South Launceston and disability service provider Able Australia at Newstead on the first day of the camp.

That afternoon they will host a ``Walk with a Hawk'' at Launceston's Royal Park, where the public can walk along the boardwalk with the players, before an official function with the Northern Hawks netball club at Aurora Stadium that night.

The next day, the playing list will visit regional areas, before spending the afternoon working with charities St Vincent de Paul and St Michaels Youth Break in Launceston.

The club will host its Launceston season launch that night at Aurora Stadium, with similar events to be held in Hobart and Launceston.

Aurora Stadium will also host football clinics next Thursday.

In a first, players will hold youth age sessions, designed to provide a stepping stone for junior players into senior leagues through a series of draft-style activities.

The sessions will be held alongside super clinics for younger children.

Tasmania's home of AFL will also see Hawthorn fine-tune its NAB Cup preparations on the Friday with the intraclub match from 9.30am, which will be open to the public.
