ESSENDON will continue trying to work David Hille, Paddy Ryder and Tasmanian Thomas Bellchambers into the same side this season, with Hille's preseason so improved that the 30-year-old has been told not to overwork himself.
The Bombers played the three ruckmen together in a handful of games early last year, before settling on the Hille-Ryder combination, but coach James Hird said the coaches had a clear idea of how they wished to use all three.
''There will be games when they do all play and games when they won't all play, whether it's through injury or form or other things,'' Hird said.
''But I'm very keen to have all of them up and going because they're three quality players.''
He said Hille, who played 19 games last year on his return from a knee reconstruction, was training well and had a better grip on where he fitted into the coach's game plan.
''You don't want to jinx someone, but so far David has put in a fantastic preseason. He hasn't missed a beat.''
Former Launceston ruckman Bellchambers, 22, played 13 games last season, averaging 21 hit-outs, 11 touches, four marks and kicked eight goals. He has played 27 games in the red and black since he was selected as the eighth pick in the 2008 preseason draft.
