ADELAIDE _ A crash brought down three cyclists late in the men's scratch race at the Australian track championships last night.
Launceston rider Peter Loft was stretchered off with a sore hip and lower back after the crash, which happened on the second-last lap of the 15-kilometre race at the Adelaide Superdrome.
New South Wales rider Scott Law and Stephen Hall (WA) also needed medical attention after their falls, but were able to walk without assistance.
SA rider Jack Bobridge rode superbly, attacking early and taking a lap on the field by himself to cement the win.
The race was stopped with one lap remaining and Bobridge was awarded the gold medal ahead of Victorian Sean Finning.
``It's unfortunate, but these things do happen and it was obviously a mishap,'' Bobridge said.
``It's never good to see anyone crash.
``My hand is still growing back skin from a few weeks ago so I'm glad I was nowhere near it.''
Bobridge's win came a day after he helped SA set the fastest time ever in Australia for the 4000m team pursuit.
The crash and a lightning strike held up the evening's program.
The lightning disrupted the electrical timing system for the women's 3000m team pursuit finals, which were scheduled after the scratch race final. Bobridge had a training ride of about five hours in the morning to prepare for his scratch race.
