ADELAIDE _ A dozen Tour Down Under cyclists are out of pocket after race officials cracked down on public ``nature stops''.
A day after the riders were issued official warnings about urinating in public, race commissaires handed out $60 fines yesterday for ``unseemly behaviour''.
It is standard for cyclists to stop for the call of nature on the side of the road early in a race.
But it is also illegal in Australia to urinate in public.
The matter became a problem for the Tour earlier this week when a woman complained that an unidentified rider urinated in front of her family.
Race organisers quickly issued an apology.
On Thursday, the teams received a warning, as well as an official note.
