LAUNCESTON IBF middleweight world champion Daniel Geale will return to Hobart to defend his world title, after plans to fight overseas fell through.
Geale will take on number one contender Ghana-born American Osumanu Adama in March in what he predicted would be his ``toughest fight to date''.
The Rocherlea fighter dismissed threats from number two challenger Sam Soliman to try and stop the fight going ahead, saying he failed to organise a fight against Adama in time.
``It's their fault that things didn't work out the way they want there. They're crying about it now,'' Geale said.
``I've had to work so hard to get into this position. These people want to jump the queue and just fight me whenever they feel like it, that's just not the way it works.''
The Rocherlea fighter said it proved too difficult to hold the fight in his home town and he resisted offers from Sydney and Melbourne to host the mandatory defence.
Instead the fight will be held at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, the same venue Geale defeated American Eromosele Albert before a sold-out crowd in August.
``It was such a great night, last time the atmosphere in there was unbelievable,'' Geale said.
``To fight in front of a home crowd is awesome so I really want to do it again. The opportunity came up, some fights fell through, I didn't get the chance to head overseas for a fight and it came about that we got the chance to fight in Tassie.''
Geale blamed an injury and the looming mandatory defence for the collapse of plans to head to the US or England to fight.
``It is going to happen, it just wasn't the right time.''
Geale said he was over an injury to his right hand.
``I been punching as hard as I ever have.''
In a coup for the state, Geale will share top billing with Australian IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib who takes on Mexican Eduardo Escobedo.
``This sort of stuff sometimes happens in Vegas, to bring it down to Tassie it's a pretty awesome thing.''
Dib was pleased to be on the same card as his friend.
``Me and Daniel definitely have some history, we both lived at the Australian Institute of Sport together, we set a hotel on fire together now we're both IBF world champions together,'' Dib said.
Tickets went on sale yesterday for the March 7 fight.
