Weightman on way to bridge run

19 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
DELHI Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medallist Lisa Weightman has confirmed her participation in the 10-kilometre race at next month's B&E Hobart Run The Bridge.

Weightman, who has represented Australia at the Beijing Olympics, Berlin world championships, multiple world cross-country events and the 2010 Commonwealth Games, is chomping at the bit to have her first race on Australia soil in over 18 months. Since her bronze medal effort in the marathon at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Weightman battled with injury, racing only once in 2011.

It turned out to be a tremendous race, as she clocked an Olympic marathon qualifier of 2:29:23.

`` A major injury saw me run only one race in 2011, the Frankfurt marathon,'' she said.

``Hobart Run The Bridge is going to kick-start 2012, a year of exciting opportunities with the Olympics on the horizon.''
