NORTHERN cricket teams have had mixed fortunes during the first two days of competition in Intrastate cup matches being played on the North-West Coast.
In the under-15s, North-West Lightning caused an upset by beating the Northern Force by 52 runs in their one-day match at Latrobe on Monday.
North-West made 9-146, on the back of an 111-run second wicket partnership between Corey Murfet (55) and Angus Tolson (28).
Northern batsmen struggled in their innings against a good North-West attack, being dismissed for 96 in the 41st over.
Brayden Pitcher top-scored with 16.
On day two of competition, the Northern under-15s grabbed their first win, beating the Southern Storm by 21 runs in a close contest.
The Force made 137, off 43.5 overs, with Tim Jones the standout, scoring 41 not out. Jones did the job with the ball as well taking 4-21, and Josh Freestone claimed 2-29, dismissing the South for 116 off 44.5 overs.
In the under-14 match on Monday, the Northern side went down to the North-West at Devonport Oval.
The Force struggled against the North-West bowlers, scoring 138 and bowled out in the 45th over.
Captain Samuel Geeves top-scored with 43 at No.3.
In reply the Lightning finished at 4-140, with a great captain's knock of 40 not out by Cody Brown.
The Northern under-14s again found the going tough on Tuesday, going down to the South.
Southern Storm scored 6-167 and the North could only manage 143 in reply, with Jordan Young and Brad Simms equal top-scorers with 19.
The Northern under-13 side won its first fixture against the North-West at Maidstone Park.
The Force made 8-156, off 40 overs, after being in early trouble at 3-19.
