NORTH Launceston's Ross Lovell won the 100 metres in 11.25 seconds and the 200m in 22.52s at Northern interclub last Tuesday and followed up his great season by taking out the St Helens gift at the weekend.
In the men's jumps Mitchell Gowan, of North Launceston, took the double in high jump with 1.70 metres and long jump with 5.75m.
Western Suburbs athlete Jasmine Turner won the under-16 javelin with a throw of 28.91m, discus with 26.68m and shot put with 10.60m. Turner also won the shot put in the Little Athletics challenge held in conjunction with the Hunter Track Classic in Newcastle with a throw of 11.43m. Clair McClenaghan, of Newstead Harriers, dominated the under-18 throws with a win in the shot put (10.27m), discus (27.28m) and javelin (31.49m).
Chloe Marquis, of North Launceston, ran a consistent time in the 400m hurdles (70.78s) and won her first maiden at St Helens at the weekend.
Tyler Heron, of Western Suburbs, ran close to his personal best in the 400m hurdles (57.40s).
Next interclub meeting is a statewide interclub on Saturday starting at 3pm, with registrations being taken 30 minutes before the start time of events.
In conjunction with the statewide interclub the Tasmanian state championship for the 3000m and some relays are being contested and entry forms for these events are available on the Athletics Tasmania website.
Briggs trail run: Briggs classic athletics is being held in Hobart on Saturday, February 4, and tickets for this event are available from your local club or Athletics Tasmania.
A new event - the Briggs trail run - will be held before the Briggs classic.
The 4km course runs from the Domain crossroads oval on the edge of Hobart and follows the Soldiers Walk trail to the Hobart Aquatic Centre. Participants finish at the gates of the Domain Athletics Centre.
Richmond races: The Richmond Carnival is on Sunday, February 5 and late entries for the carnival will be accepted until Friday, January 27. An additional event has been added - a maiden 70m - and if runners are interested in competing in this event or placing a late entry for the advertised events please contact Glenn Foster at gvfoster@bigpond.net.au.
