AN Australia Day Little Athletics meeting attracted about 100 athletes to Launceston St Leonards Athletic Centre meeting yesterday.
Hosted by the South Launceston Little Athletics Centre, the meeting covered track events, high jump and long jump, discus and javelin.
Little Athletes attending from a variety of centres across the state including Longford, North Launceston, Launceston, Devonport, Hobart district and the North-East.
Little Athletes aged from under-6 to 15 years took part with competitors receiving a certificate in recognition of Australia Day.
``It was a fantastic day and the kids had a ball,'' South Launceston centre president Mick Halaby said.
``There were lots of Australian flags, hats and tattoos everywhere.''
Halaby said the Australia Day meeting was being hosted by South Launceston centre for the second year running.
``It will certainly be a regular event on the calendar going forward,'' he said.
Meanwhile, an Australia Day fun run at Launceston's Royal Park saw about 50 runners take part in a two-kilometre or 5km event.
The 2km race winners were Ashley Draper and Jaicobntscorrect spellingnteRae.
The 5km race went to Alex Geale with Mark Jackson second and Nick Kaine third.
