Launceston start for Webber Challenge

02 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THIS year's Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge will start in Launceston on November 28, with the formula 1 star heading straight from the final round of the season in Brazil to pursue his passion for adventure racing.

After the opening day around the city, the event will take in the Bay of Fires, Binalong Bay, Barnbougle and Bicheno over the next three days before finishing in Hobart on Sunday, December 2.

Webber, who is preparing for another assault on the F1 world championship, is already looking forward to returning to Tasmania where he helped raise $100,000 for charity last year.

``I have another big year ahead of me and I am looking forward to testing my limits again,'' he said.

A new team format allows for three people to share the load and is expected to appeal to specialist athletes.

Webber's major focus is again to raise money for charity and has nominated Whitelion and Save the Tassie Devil as recipients.
