Launceston's James Hodge charges to the line to win yesterday's Latrobe triathlon.
LAUNCESTON triathletes dominated the second round of the Tasmanian triathlon series at Latrobe yesterday.
University of Tasmania radiography student James Hodge, 20, of Launceston, had a convincing Australia Day victory, leading from start to finish.
Scott Schilg, also of Launceston, came in second and Dylan Hill third.
In the women's field, Kate Pedley came in first, Hollie Claridge second and Melissa Clark third, with all three competitors from Launceston.
The triathlon at Bells Parade, which coincided with Henley on Mersey, included a 400-metre river swim, 16-kilometre cycle leg and 4km run on River Road, towards Devonport.
``I felt really good the whole race and had a good swim and good bike leg, then the run was fairly hot but everyone else had the same conditions,'' Hodge said.
``I was chucking a few cups of water over myself to cool down.''
Fraser Lyon, of Devonport, was the first junior male across the line, and Grace Row-Smith, of Hobart, was the first female.
Paul Bigood, of Hobart, won the veteran men's and Maggie Squires, of Launceston, won the women's.
Race 3 of the series will be hosted by the Launceston Triathlon Club at Beauty Point next Sunday.
