LAUNCESTON triathlon world champion James Hodge took out the 2012 Tasmanian triathlon series yesterday after winning the series' third race at Beauty Point.
The 20-year-old won the race in one hour, 10 minutes and 41 seconds.
He said it felt good to win the race and the series when there was still two races to go.
``It was a good race all round,'' Hodge said.
There are two triathlons remaining in the series, however because Hodge has won three of the five, he automatically takes the title.
He said he would still take the last two triathlons seriously and aim to win both.
Hayden Armstrong, of Hobart, was the second to cross the line in 1:13.55 seconds.
He was followed by Paul McKenzie, of Launceston, who finished in 1:15.15 seconds.
In the women's field, Launceston junior Natalea Smith put on an impressive performance to win in 1:25.22 seconds.
The race was the first for the 17-year-old for the series after spending the past two months competing in the elite championships on the mainland, where she placed ninth in the ITU junior sprint race in Runaway Bay, Queensland.
She said she was really happy with the win given how tired she was from only returning to the state last week.
``I was pretty tired from all the racing I've been doing and I was a little anxious because the ride was 30 kilometres instead of the usual 20,'' Smith said.
``But I just managed to make it through on the bike and then the runs my strong leg, so I pushed through my stomach cramps and took the win. I was pretty happy.''
Launceston's Holly Claridge came third in 1:26.1 second.
She was followed by Kate Warren, of Ulverstone.
Almost 150 triathletes competed in yesterday's WHK financial planning triathlon at Beauty Point.
The next race in the series will be held at Coles Bay on Saturday February 18.
