JOSH Harris of Tamar Athletics took out the Tasmanian State Championship title in the 3000 metres at Statewide Interclub held at St Leonards on Saturday.
In a smart time of 8:45.48 seconds from James Hanson of North Launceston who ran 9:01.28 seconds and third place went to Nathan Morey of Old Virgilians in 9:04.39 seconds.
James also ran in the 800m clocking a time of 1:53.08 to come first in an under 20 NAtional standard from seasoned competitor Tom Beard, of Old Virgilians.
Northern athletes competed against some strong fields in the throws events at the weekend.
Claire McClenaghan of Newstead Harriers threw an under-18 national qualifier in the hammer with 40.17m competing against our state's best - Danielle McConnell of Eastern Suburbs, Mikayla Genge and Rebecca Direen, who competed in the under-20 age group.
In the men's sprints Ross Lovell of North Launceston ran a personal best in the 100m in 11.10s and training partner Sam Henley stopped the clock at 11.30s.
In the 400m Darcy Lahey of North Launceston ran a season best in 50.14s to take the race from first season runner Brodie Robinson of Western Suburbs who ran 51.93s and Jerome Whiteley of North Launceston third in 52.62s.
On Tuesday, January 24, Interclub was well supported.
Brodie Robinson took the sprint double in the 200m in 24.20s and the 400m in 52.34s. Mitchell Gowen of North Launceston came second in the 200m in 24.70s and took out the Long Jump in 5.82m.
Twelve-year-old Joshua Hall of North Launceston debuted in the pole vault with a height of 1.95m and competed against seasoned jumper Josh Shepherd who won in 4m.
Next Interclub will be on Sunday February 12 starting at 2.30pm running program C.
