AN OCEANIA record and three gold medals were among yesterday's results for the seven Tasmanian athletes competing at the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships in New Zealand.
The event started on Sunday and culminates with the half-marathon next Sunday.
Lynne Lyden, of Kingston, is one of three athletes wives accompanying the seven-strong Tasmanian contingent.
Her husband Peter is competing in the 55-59 age group.
Mrs Lyden said that Deloraine's Suzy Cole had a really good run yesterday in the women's 40-44 800 metres.
``She absolutely blitzed the field, finishing in 2:13.56, an Oceania meet record,'' Mrs Lyden said.
``I look at the times some of the women 20 or 30 years older than me are running and I couldn't run them.
``Geoff Gibbons, of Hobart, won Monday's men's 35-39 decathlon and Michael Stevenson was second in the men's 70-74 800 metres.
``(Husband) Peter was second in Sunday's 55-59 5000 metre race and Michael Walker won gold in his 65-69 5000 metre event.
``The Tasmanians are doing very well.''
The cross-country and sprint events start today.
