30 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
MADDI Baxter, of Launceston, and Daniel Bloomfield, of Perth, made the most of yesterday's scorching temperatures by jumping into Longford's Mill Dam Reserve.

They joined many others who took advantage of temperatures that were generally five to 10 degrees above average across the state.

Bushy Park, Scotts Peak, Campania, Grove and Ouse all shared the state's maximum temperature of 34 degrees - for Scotts Peak that was 14 degrees above average.

The mercury recorded a maximum of 31 degrees at both Launceston and Hobart - seven and 10 degrees above average for each city respectively.

Tasman Island recorded the state's coolest temperature at 20 degrees with Scamander around 22 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to cool today with a rain band across the state causing rain and possible thunderstorms.

Launceston and Hobart can expect a maximum of 26 degrees today with temperatures expected to stay in the low to mid 20s until later in the week.
