Thank you Ivan Dean for flying the flag for mental health. So many carers are suffering because of lack of accomodation for their loved ones . It is beyond comprehension that there has not been provided safe and secure places for chronically mentally ill people, so little trained staff. Rocherlea is not for dangerous patients and there is no staff to run the place anyway. This is a sad inditement on our government. Suicides are rife in the community because of unprotection for the insane. They do have feelings. Yes.

The videos certainly show a wide gulf in what the candidates think we want to hear. Kathryn Hay spoke well and explained what she would do for us, Ivan Dean used the opportunity to plead for votes, and Peter Whish-Wilson bizarrely spoke about how he likes surfing and what his wife does for a living.......

HI Kathryn, if elected, will you be eligible to become a member of the parliamentary Labor party & take on a ministerial role? thanks, Linda

Ivan Dean and Kathryn Hay are both in favour of the Pulp Mill. That means they are for the pollution of our beautiful Tamar Valley and the wanton destruction of its people's businesses, health and livelihoods for the sake of vast profits for Gunns - which will find their way back into the pockets of our major Party politicians. Whatever else Dean and Hay might stand for, that alone is surely enough reason NOT to vote for them.

Oh dear Paul, there you go... you just went and blew your cover just like that! So you're a green and you want us to vote green... well why not just say so and admit your party bias without clinging to that tired old prejudice of people as being "for" or "against" the mill. Grow up, we have. Interesting that the greens seem desperate to hold Tasmanians to be blinkered on a single issue that isn't even likely to be a voting issue in the next SIX years of the Legislative Council. My final comment to any Windermere voter is this: vote for the person best able to stick up for your interests, even though right now we can't even guess what those issues will be. It's about trust, not party politics (and certainly not an issue that won't even be brought before parliament again). Thank you to the Examiner for doing these videos, very good stuff.

If you are after a candidate that is anti pulp mill, there is Whish-Wilson, who is a Green candidate. Ted Sands, who strongly opposes the mill and is an Independant, would be a good choice with no political party influencing his decisions. Finally Peter Kaye, is against the pulp mill due to the 'Fast track' assessment process. Another true independant.

M.D., obviously a Gunns shareholder (and therefore part of the minority who support the pulp mill), attempts to paint anyone against the mill as a "green". Wrong. You might hope that its not an issue any more but you're wrong there too! My vote will be for those with the guts to stand up to corporate greed - anyone willing to stick up for the average Joe rather than pander to the Gunns shareholders.

Sands and Kaye know they don't stand a chance and hence didn't bother with the video. Whish-Wilson thinks that becasue he is Green he has lots of support but if he took time to talk to people outside of anti-pulp mill rallies he would find he is mistaken. This is a two horse race between Dean and Hay. I hope the former gets up as I believe he still has a lot more to offer.

Linda, I think I can answer your question re: Kathryn - As she is not an endorsed member of the Labor Party (The party offered but she refused in order to keep her independant vote). She will not be able to caucus with the Labour Party or take on a ministerial role. Kathryn unlike 2 other supposedly 'independant' members, who have been members of political parties in the past as well, has acknowledged her Labour roots while maintaining her independance from the party. Honesty is a wonderful thing!

Ivan Dean has done nothing wrong so why would you change, independant candidates is the only way to go it is a strength of Tasmanian politics, it would be great if the federal senate was also less party based and mroe independant less politics and more real discussion of the issues. Hay is labour, once labour always labour can't change your spots or your alliances that easily and you shouldn't pretend you can!!! Who is Ted Sands?? or Peter Kaye for that matter??
