LITTLE interest in a review of Tasmania's electricity industry has led to an expert panel cancelling its public hearing in the North.
The Electricity Supply Industry Expert Panel - which is costing taxpayers $3.2 million - has advised that a hearing scheduled for Wednesday in Launceston won't go ahead due to insufficient interest.
This is despite power price rises causing widespread angst in the community.
The panel was seeking feedback on its 305-page draft report of the state's electricity market, which was released last month.
The in-depth analysis considers the electricity sector's past and present, and makes recommendations to Parliament on possible reforms and consequences.
In a statement on its website the panel has revealed that just three people registered for the Launceston session, and only one wanted to make a presentation to the panel.
``The individuals who registered for the Launceston hearing will be personally notified of the cancellation and offered the opportunity to participate at the Hobart hearing,'' the statement read.
About 30 people attended an initial session in Launceston last year.
The Hobart hearing will go ahead at 11am on Thursday at the Salamanca Inn, Hobart.
Anyone who wishes to attend or address the panel must register by the end of today.
