The idea of the indigenous flag flying in the House of Assembly chamber was suggested last month when Parliament sat in Launceston, but Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre worker Nala Mansell-McKenna said she asked for time to consult with the Aboriginal community first.
Mr Polley said Ms Singh was simply moving a machinery motion to begin the process of considering having the flag in Parliament.
"In doing so, Ms Singh was starting a process that would allow formal consultation with the Aboriginal community, as well as both Opposition parties," he said.
