Bartlett has six Lyons hopefuls

20 Jul, 2009 08:27 AM
PREMIER David Bartlett took advantage of the launch of the $4.6 million Rubicon pipeline development to announce Labor's candidates for Lyons at next year's state election.

Sitting members Michael Polley, David Llewellyn and Heather Butler will battle each other and hopefuls Brendan Sullivan, of Port Sorell, Bec White, of Sorell, and Nick Wright, of Hobart, for a Lyons seat.

A Labor insider said that the party had to retain three seats in Lyons to have any hope of retaining its majority.

Mr Bartlett said that the Lyons candidates were an excellent blend of experience and wisdom with youth, energy and new ideas.

"This team also brings a terrific geographical spread in what is a largely sprawling regional and rural electorate," he said.

All members understood the importance of prosperity in regional towns to the future of Tasmania, he said.

Just had a Labor candidate knock on our door. Hard to think we are going to elections when they do not even know what is happening around then. Even though hospitals has been big news for some time he did not even know people were being sent to Launcestons Hospital. I never got to mention the elderly people that have to get there and back as his door knocking was more important.
