$6m Liberal pledge puts arts in the election frame

14 Mar, 2010 12:00 AM
EVENTS Tasmania would receive a $6million injection to market the state's arts sector and drive cultural tourism under a majority Liberal government.

Releasing his party's arts and cultural tourism policy yesterday, Opposition Leader Will Hodgman said investing in the sector would be a top priority under his leadership.

"Good arts is good business for Tasmania," Mr Hodgman said.

A Liberal government would also:

•Review recurrent funding of professional arts organisations.

•Initiate an independent review of funding arrangements in Tasmania.

•Provide $60,000 a year for four years to Contemporary Art Spaces Tasmania to take contemporary artists into Tasmania's regional and remote areas.

•Give $100,000 over two years to Hobart-based youth community radio station Edge Radio.

•"Re-energise" the public art program.

Mr Hodgman will further outline his plans to the party faithful today at the Liberal Party campaign launch at the Boatshed in Launceston.
