National Trust Tasmanian managing director Chris Tassell announced the winners in Hobart today. He said the the icons had been chosen by an independent panel from amongst hundreds of community nominations.
"Ten Tasmanian Heritage Icons and one Children's Choice Icon now join last year's inaugural list which received overwhelming community acceptance," Mr Tassell said.
The Examiner tomorrow will publish a special supplement OUR TOP 100 TASMANIAN HERITAGE ICONS which will include stories on the the winners.

Mr Tassell said
it was a great thing that the community was able to recognise Tasmania's distinct cultural heritage.
"Once again, the community has really responded strongly and we now have an additional group of worthy Icons that truly represent what
Tasmania is really about. Just like last year, these Icons are highly valued and much loved."
Chairman of the Heritage Icon Awards Committee Colin Kent said that the community nominations and this year's winners reflected the rich diversity of things which Tasmanians believe were special and worthy of wider recognition.
"Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees has once again been delighted to, together with the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, to partner with the National Trust in this fantastic program, " Mr Kent said.
"We look forward to these
new Icons being even further appreciated and we eagerly await nominations for next year's list."
2009 Heritage Icons Judging Panel was chairman Colin Kent and committee members Jo Palmer, George Bailey, Greg Leong, Chris Tassell and Dianne Snowden.
