allenge CLINICAL nurse manager Cat Schofield has set herself the challenge of ending the traditionally closed book on the Launceston General Hospital's psychiatric ward.
Every month there are some 40 admissions to Ward 1E but little is known about this part of the hospital, where confidentiality is "rule of thumb" but accountability and openness are the modern expectation.
Two reports in three years have criticised the ward and targeted the Department of Health and Human Services for its neglect of sexual abuse and harassment complaints.
A new director, Dr Richard Seamark, and Ms Schofield have been employed to implement the 28 recommendations made in an audit and review released in January.
