 LGH `managing demand'

LGH `managing demand'

02 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THE Launceston General Hospital has been ``managing demand to date'' following ward closures, according to Northern Area Health Service chief executive John Kirwan.

The hospital closed 20 beds and a ward in December to meet budget demands.

Elective surgery operating theatres were also reduced from six to four.

Mr Kirwan said demand over Christmas-New Year and into January had remained constant, with some peaks in emergency department presentations.

``However, they are all being managed,'' he said.

``The LGH continues to monitor activity and has plans in place to address the critical period that starts at Easter and goes through to the end of winter.''

Managing demand is a new one on me.

Is this a new management principle which Peter Drucker and like, forgot to teach in Management Principles? can any one please explain what this means? ie no funding! go away! we're full up! no vacancies! go somewhere else! if you are not dying, go home??? sorry we are closed! What did the learned ones do, say 10 years ago??
