Former UTAS medical chief 'highly regarded'

Former University of Tasmania medical school chief and science dean Allan Carmichael has died after a short illness.

Premier Lara Giddings said yesterday that Professor Carmichael, 67, who died on Saturday, was highly regarded as both a clinician and an academic.

``His outstanding contribution to Tasmania's health system will live on in the work of the many doctors, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and researchers who benefited from his guidance and leadership,'' Ms Giddings said.
