MOTOR racing popularity and youthful exuberance are challenges when devising strategies to increase road safety among young drivers, a government business enterprise scrutiny committee has heard.
Tasmania's Motor Accidents Insurance Board chairman Gordon Humphreys told the committee yesterday that increasing young drivers' awareness of safety was something the whole community should be responsible for.
He said that education campaigns were positive but did not completely address the issue. Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges said he hoped a school driver education program would be expanded.
