Youth give magazine personal touch

14 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THE ball is well and truly rolling for The Examiner's youth magazine, Fuse.

On Friday, Fuse joined forces with the City Mission to create the magazine's front cover image.

Eight Fuse participants toured the organisation's Youngtown store to select furniture and household wares.

They then transformed parts of Launceston's Inveresk site into their very own instant living room.

Funky couches, colourful accessories and unique pieces all had a place in the group's personalised living room.

The Examiner's advertising sales manager Joel Brewer said the shoot demonstrated the versatility of recycling.

``We wanted to not only create an interesting, colourful image, but show that you don't have to buy brand new furniture to create an extremely liveable space,'' Mr Brewer said.

``While this might not be everyone's cup of tea when it comes to home decorating, it certainly embodies the personality of Fuse magazine: bright, functional, eclectic and a little bit cheeky.

``City Mission kindly lent us some of their goods to use for our shoot.''

The City Mission has seven Mission Shops throughout Launceston.

The funds raised through the stores help to support the organisation's Missiondale drug and alcohol addiction recovery centre, youth work and supported accommodation services.

The City Mission is grateful for donations of preloved furniture, clothing and other household goods.

To find out more about donating to the City Mission, visit www.citymission.org.au or call 6343 2115.

The 2012 edition of Fuse magazine will be published next month.
