 Wilkie to back Labor

Wilkie to back Labor

02 Sep, 2010 04:49 PM
Tasmanian independent MP Andrew Wilkie has decided to support Labor, giving Julia Gillard 74 seats in a bid to form a minority government.

Mr Wilkie, who took the seat of Denison from Labor, said his support of a Julia Gillard government only extended to not voting for "unwarranted no confidence" motions - and he would also pass supply motions.

He said he remained concerned at many parts of Labor's policy agenda, including their treatment of refugees, but he would use the parliamentary term to champion reforms.

Mr Wilkie said he believed Labor held the best chance of forming a stable government for the next three years.

When you get only 21% of primary votes you need to check where your preferences came from one term wonder boy!

The independents serve only to muddy the waters. It should be a first past the post with no preferences. That would result in a better democratic decision as the preson getting the most votes would be the winner.

i could have told you last week that Wilkie would be a Labor supporter. What was all the fuss about.

Both Andrew W and Adam Bandt seem to fail to realise ALP were their main competitor for their seats.
