THE selection panel to oversee the appointment Tasmania's new Police Commissioner has been announced.
Premier David Bartlett announced the four-person panel this afternoon, which will interview a short-list of suitable candidates and provide a recommendation to Mr Bartlett.
The panel is:
- Don Challen: Department of Treasury and Finance secretary and panel chairman.
- Andrew Scipione: NSW commissioner of police
- Lynelle Briggs: Medicare Australia chief executive and former Australian Public Service Commissioner
- Associate Professor Roberta Julian: of the Tasmanian Institute of Law Enforcement Studies and a member of the Tasmania Together progress board.
Mr Bartlett said that the short-list is being compiled by independent recruitment consultants EWK International through an interview process.
It is expected that the selection panel will meet for the first time next month.
"The Government is committed to an open and transparent process for appointing a new police commissioner," Mr Bartlett said.
"I'm pleased that we've been able to attract professionals of such high calibre and experience to form the selection panel."
