Telstra outage hits customers

07 Feb, 2012 03:17 PM
Two simultaneous hardware faults - one in the North-West and one in Launceston - caused a major outage for Telstra's Northern Tasmanian customers today.

According to Telstra, up to 30 Next G stations and 49 GSM stations, as well as a number of corporate broadband networks.

The outage lasted for about two hours before Telstra technicians were able to restore service to the affected area.

Telstra said it apologised to customers for the inconvenience.

I wonder if residents in my area will ever get an apology for the numerous outages we suffer on a regular basis. Probably not as we only have landlines. 15 K from a major industrial site and no other coverage. No internet or mobile coverage other than satelitte. Our landline fails every time it rains. All we get is the run around.

Unknown, how do you suggest I do that? I have no landline, there is no mobile coverage here, therefore I do not own a mobile phone, the public phone is also out of order and Telstra do not respond to emails. It is over 100 k's round trip to Launceston to go to a Telstra Shop.

Gotta love technology !!!!!!!

Agreed Jennie. And problems still ongoing since your post last week - little sign of improvement. I'm in West Launie, apparently one of the worst affected inner city zones!, so granted it's closer to the shop, but there is nothing they can do there anyway - have just been in to see what the...and they have been given no updated info since the beginning it seems. Lets just go back to smoke signalling shall we! :)
