Up to 150 students will get one today because of a faulty heater.
Port Dalrymple principal Philip Challis asked parents to keep senior students at home this morning after a gas heater stopped working yesterday.
``In light of the current cold conditions I am requesting, where possible, that students in grade 8, 9 and 10 do not come to school until 11.30am,'' he wrote in a letter to parents.
``If students catch buses from outlying areas, or if you cannot arrange supervision, we will be able to accommodate a limited number of students in a special-purpose room.''
Mr Challis said he expected the heating to be up and running by lunchtime.
An Education Department spokeswoman said that about 150 students at the George Town school would be affected.
