Rotary fun is set to fly

05 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
IT'S nearly time to brighten the Devonport sky with kites and teddy bears for this year's Teddy Bear Fly In and Kite Festival.

Next Sunday, February 12, the annual Rotary Club of Devonport event will run between 11am and 3pm.

Hundreds of bears will be dropped from a helicopter in the afternoon with the owner of the bear nearest the target receiving a tax deductible $4000 to donate to the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund.

Rotary is encouraging sponsors to dress up their bears and display them on the day.

There will also be a Teddy Bear Parade run by the Inner Wheel Mersey Club.

It is a free event with entertainment, food and refreshments, stalls and, of course, a lot of kites in the sky.

Families can bring their own kites or they can purchase them on the day.
