Police release identity of body

POLICE have confirmed the identity of a young male found dead at the base of a cliff in the state's south yesterday.

The body of missing 17-year-old Dean Andrew Causby was discovered by police at the base of Mirramar Park at Kingston about noon.

He was last seen by family members on Monday when he left to attend Hobart College.

Initially, the name of the deceased was withheld by police pending notification of the family.

However, police criticised some media outlets who published the teenager's identity this morning.

"I am able to confirm that the name of the deceased was not released by Tasmania Police," Divisional Inspector Tony Cerritelli said in a statement.

Police are asking that anyone with informtion regarding a male youth seen climbing the cliff face at Mirramar Park on Monday, July 26, to contact Kingston Police on 6211 8000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
