Pension freeze

The Federal Government says a decision to freeze the pension payments of British expats living in Australia is discriminatory.

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that the UK Government can continue to withhold inflationary adjustments to its basic state pension to all eligible expats living in Commonwealth countries. This is in contrast to pensioners who have retired in countries within the European Union who receive inflationary adjustments.
