FOUR past winners of the $35,000 Glover Art Prize have the chance for repeat success, but no such luck for last year's winning artist Josh Foley.
When the 43 finalists for 2012 were listed on the Glover website yesterday, Foley was philosophical about missing the cut.
``Oh, I'm not fazed,'' said Foley, whose 2011 oil on pumice work, entitled Gee's Lookout, was declared by the judges to be a ``hallucinogenic . . . but dexterous'' depiction of landscape.
``The judges are different every year, each panel looks for something different I guess.''
This year, Foley submitted a large work depicting his studio in the Coats Patons building, describing it as an ``inverted take on what I painted last year''.
The artists who are back in the running for the coveted statuette and $35,000 acquisitive cheque for landscape painting are Neil Haddon, Raymond Arnold, David Keeling and Michael McWilliams.
Other finalists from 272 initial entries include Leoni Duff, Kit Hiller, Rose Teng Hong, Rodney Pople, Paul Snell and Philip Wolfhagen.
The winner of the 2012 Glover Art Prize will be announced on Friday, March 9, with the finalist works on public exhibition throughout the March long weekend.
