Pakistan aid $1bn

The World Bank raised its emergency funding to Pakistan to $1 billion yesterday to help the nation cope with the massive economic impact of flooding.

The rise is an additional $US100 million ($110 million) on top of an existing $US900 million loan.

China landslides: At least three people died and 57 were missing after rain- triggered landslides struck a village in south-western China, state media reported yesterday. The landslides swept through the village of Wama in Yunnan province. Floods and related disasters have affected 230 million people nationwide this year.
