NSW man dies on Tasmanian mountain

A 59-year-old NSW man has died at the summit of Mount Oakley in the Cradle Mountain National Park.

The police rescue helicopter was sent to the region shortly before 4pm yesterday for a man suffering an unspecified medical condition.

Sergeant Matthew Drumm, of Bellerive police said a paramedic assessed the man at the scene but he was dead.

His body was winched into the helicopter and airlifted to the Launceston Airport.
