THE South African women's fly-fishing team has a secret weapon for the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships.
The six-member team includes a keen mother and daughter angling duo, ready to tie, cast and catch next Wednesday.
Mother Renthia and daughter Marlize Heyns said they were excited to be competing in Tasmania.
``I decided that I really wanted to do something with my mum, so I started competitive fishing with her,'' Miss Heyns said.
Mrs Heyns said she had been fishing for 17 years and introduced Marlize, 21, to the sport as a child.
The pair said they were particularly looking forward to fishing in Tasmania's lakes as they did not see such large bodies of water in South Africa.
``For us the big lakes are very different to what we have at home. We fish mostly little dams and rivers,'' Miss Heyns said.
And will they have to employ different techniques for the lakes?
``Yes, but that is a secret,'' Mrs Heyns said.
