DAVID Cheshire has turned an ordinary coach into his dream house on wheels.
Mr Cheshire and wife Una, of Somerset, joined hundreds of happy campers at the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia rally yesterday.
The rally is being held at Launceston's Aurora Showgrounds precinct until Tuesday.
Rally manager Don Mackrill said the event was a chance for everyone to get together, discuss their way of life and get ideas from others while developing ongoing friendships.
For Mr Cheshire, it was also a chance to show off his new vehicle.
Mr Cheshire bought the 1993 Hino two months ago.
He has spent $14,000 fitting in a bed, fridge, oven and stove - and is in the process of adding a shower.
"It will be fully self- contained when it's finished," Mr Cheshire said.
He said he and his wife loved the motorhome lifestyle. "You can't beat it," he said.
"It's all of the people you meet from all walks of life, the fellowship and the camaraderie."
Mr Cheshire said he attended the rallies regularly and they were a time to catch up with friends as well as meet new ones.
Rally goers will have entertainment, happy hour at 4pm every day and plenty of time to explore the city and attend Festivale.
