Fun run raises breast cancer awareness

15 Mar, 2010 03:30 PM
LAUNCESTON was a sea of pink yesterday when about 2000 women took part in the second annual Women's Five Kilometre Fun Run.

Early morning traffic in the central business district had to detour to make way for the runners, who were raising awareness about breast cancer.

Almost $30,000 had been raised before the race gun began and the funds will be used to buy a patient transfer car for Launceston's Holman Clinic.

Race director Rob Gillard said it was wonderful to see so many women promoting health and fitness and supporting breast cancer awareness.

In its second year the event has more than doubled the funds raised, a positive sign for the future.

This has a lot to do with actress and Gold Logie winner Rebecca Gibney, who has thrown her support behind the event.

This year she roped some of her castmates from the hit series Packed To The Rafters to join the fun.

Cast members Jessica Marais, Zoe Ventoura and James Stewart all completed the race and signed autographs at the finish line.
