Festival celebrates the sound of country

12 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THERE'S something special about country music with Tasmania's rural North-West as a backdrop.

Yesterday, Turners Beach hosted its second Tasmanian Country Music Festival, after the success of last year's inaugural event. As the day progressed, the weather became warmer and the sun peeked through the clouds making the event on the oval even better.

About 200 people relaxed on the grass and enjoyed music from Gina Timms, Dave Hawkins, Anna Townsend, Vanessa Waara, Linda King, Kevin Donahue, Whiskey Rose and a host of others.

The event was born out of a small night just for locals in 2010. Organisers knew they could make it bigger and better, with the following country music has in the region. There was also face painting, a jumping castle and Auskick sessions for the kids.
