THE National Film and Sound Archive's Cooee Cabaret will be in the North-West this week as part of its first tour in Tasmania.
Maria Perez-Pulido is one of two locals performing in the Burnie show.
She will be performing a medley of Land Down Under and Waltzing Matilda and a version of Yarra River Blues with a blues-jazz take on it.
``I was somewhere in the world learning French and my teacher had the French version of Land Down Under and I loved it - I didn't know what it meant - a lot of it couldn't be translated but I loved it.''
Perez-Pulido grew up in the Canary Islands, Spain, where she attended the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Canarias and majored in violin.
After that she studied violin making in Cremona, Italy.
Here in Tasmania she is doing a PhD on using Tasmanian timbers for violin making.
The Cooee Cabaret will be at the Devonport Entertainment and Convention Centre from 7.30pm tomorrow and the Burnie Arts and Function Centre on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
