MELBOURNE - Sydney is spending the most on its infrastructure for cyclists but its Melbourne counterpart remains streets ahead as a cycle- friendly environment, according to new research released by Melbourne- based Bicycle Network.
The cycling organisation has estimated that Sydney spends $62.34 a head on infrastructure to keep its cyclists happy compared with Melbourne's $12.43.
Bicycle Network's Bike Futures program manager Mike Williamson said Melbourne had many more cyclists than Sydney and estimated that 11 per cent of the traffic into the CBD was by cyclists.
