The exterior metal halide green-tinted lights on Lee Dyson's bush home outside Rocherlea, resting 270 metres above the Tamar River, were recorded by Riverside resident Brendon Hill almost two weeks ago.

Mr Hill and his friends were spooked by the shimmering high-intensity lights which looked to be hovering in the sky.

The video was passed on to The Examiner and received 75,000 YouTube views on the newspaper's website, generating national and international news stories.

Ironically, Mr Dyson chose to build on the bush block seven years ago for peace and privacy and installed the strong lights to illuminate the home's outdoor entertainment area and ward off wildlife hunters.

"I was amazed about how far the story spread, it appeared on Indian, Chinese, American and French websites," he said.

"The kids thought it was a good joke though and it was (incredible) that it got to that point."

Mr Dyson understood the interest in the mysterious lights, admitting to once seeing strange lights in the night sky himself seven years ago.

"When I lived in Invermay, I looked up on a clear night one night and saw two usually bright white lights in the sky above me," he said.

"I watched them for a bit and, as a pair, they moved to one side and then were just gone.

"I phoned the Bureau of Meteorology and the airport - and nothing. They certainly were unexplained."

Mr Dyson said he believed in intelligent life forms on other planets.

"It's too extreme to think we are the only planet with life on it," he said.

"We're just about mature enough here to have visitors."
