Blooming passion for flower shows

04 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
WHEN Ray Hawkins went to his first flower show about 45 years ago, it sparked a life-long passion for growing camellias, roses and hydrangeas.

He hopes the Launceston Horticultural Society's Dahlia, Gladioli and Lilium Show will inspire the same passion in others when it is held at St Ailbe's Hall this weekend.

Mr Hawkins said he would be one of 50 stallholders at the show, to be held from 2pm to 5pm today and 9am to 4pm tomorrow.

``There are some really world-class dahlia growers in show and we will also have gladioli, liliums, cut flowers, floral art and there will be specialist plants on sale that you can't buy elsewhere,'' he said.

``It is always something if people come away wanting to grow their own flowers.''
