AUSTRALIA Post is still seeking final approval to fit out the heritage-listed Launceston post office building.
A spokeswoman for the postal service said plans with the Tasmanian Heritage Council were expected to be approved in the coming weeks.
The community-led drive to see Australia Post returned to its 1890 origins in Cameron Street has taken almost a decade.
Last year Australia Post announced that it would spend $500,000 restoring the building's main postal chamber.
The company's current post office in St John Street will be combined with a small outlet, already in the building, to create a larger post office with more services.
The spokeswoman said staff from the two existing offices would be redeployed either to Cameron Street or other outlets.
She said Australia Post and the Launceston City Council were still discussing the relocation of the council's visitor information centre to the building.
